Met Éireann announced the launch of the AIMSIR Centre with University College Dublin on 19 September 2025. The centre brings researchers together to develop artificial-intelligence approaches to weather forecasting.

According to Met Éireann, the centre was established with a €5 million investment. Its research is intended to support preparedness for changing weather and climate; this is a research programme, not a claim that extreme weather can already be predicted without uncertainty.
